Hi I'm Shelley Chapman, EdM.
I coach people through weight loss.
I share nutrition focused recipes.
I teach mindful eating as a lifestyle.
My work is best for those who struggle with being overweight due to emotional or stress eating .My career started in 1980. I was the fun loving kid at all of the birthday parties waiting eagerly for cake and ice-cream and sampling the buffet spread of yummy treats while the other kids played games. I. Loved. Food.
In 1996, I developed an eating disorder as a way to cope with my parents’ divorce and my relationship with food changed drastically.
I gorged myself with Brown Sugar Pop Tarts, Oreos and Cheetos (the crunchy and puffy kind).
Even though I earned fellowships and conducted research on body image, women and eating disorders at some of the top leading research institutions (Harvard, New York University (NYU), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Emory University and Spelman College) —- I still couldn’t help myself.
Like most women, I suffered in silence.
I starved, binged and mistreated my body for close to ten years.
I missed out on a lot of life. I limited myself because I hated my body at times. I wouldn't go to events, wear certain fashions or even be in intimate relationships because I didn’t like the way I looked.
In 2006, I decided to take my life back, by creating a new relationship with my body and food.
Over the next 6 years, I started learning everything I could about different dietary lifestyles and their effect on our body and health. I studied veganism, vegetarianism, raw foods, ayurvedic cooking, mindful eating, plant based diets, paleo diets, gluten-free eating and fasting.
In 2012, I took it to another level.
I committed and consistently applied what I learned about food to my body AND healed the trauma that was the root cause of my emotional eating binges.
The result was a 52 pound weight loss, years of emotional baggage gone, and a lasting transformation.
I work with women who struggle with weight loss due to disordered eating behaviors ( such as emotional, compulsive overeating, stress eating) and poor body image.
I help them
- shift from emotional eating to mindful eating
- integrate healthy eating behaviors into their busy, modern lifestyle
- lose weight sustainably
